Between 2016 and 2023, a 33 km motorway network, including 22 km of tunnels and numerous junctions, was opened in a major metropolis. This project has significantly reduced urban and suburban traffic congestion, while improving air quality by shifting surface traffic to underground tunnels.
The network operator is responsible for maintenance, incident management, and the replacement and upgrading of all equipment, including tunnel equipment.
To optimize operations, Egis set up an interconnection between the BIM models used to build the freeways, tunnels and sidings, and the operator’s maintenance management system (CMMS). Right from the start of the project, maintenance requirements were integrated into the BIM methodology, enabling specific equipment to be included in the 3D models, rather than just generic objects. The data to be modeled was specified upstream to facilitate connection with the business repository used in the CMMS software, listing 50,000 items of equipment, divided into 230 categories.
